Lemon Ginger Tea

Lemon Ginger Tea

Good morning! So upon waking this morning, I found I was feeling stuffy, sneezing, and have spent my morning working my way through a box of tissues, blowing my nose. Spring cold/allergies, whatever this is, has come to visit. So-time to make a batch of my lemon ginger tea! It never fails to make me feel much better and if it’s a cold, usually helps kick it in about 3-4 days.

You really can’t make a mistake with this recipe since its extremely versatile. Depending on how large your sauce pot is, you could easily double the recipe. I often like a stronger lemon flavor, so I will sometimes use 3 lemons instead of 2. As to the ginger, I often say to use a piece approximately the size of your thumb.

  Lemon Ginger Tea Recipe

  INGREDIENTS

  2 lemons, sliced

  Fresh ginger-about a 2 inch piece

  2 cinnamon sticks

  1/8 tsp cayenne (optional)

  Honey to taste

There are a number of health benefits of both lemon and ginger, to include immune support, healthier skin, lower blood pressure, weight loss and so on. I won’t bore you with the details, but I definitely encourage you to do your research! I have often found that drinking this tea helps me better control my hunger and has kept my family and I free from illness most of the time! On the few occasions we do get sick, drinking 2-3 cups of this per day seems to help us recover in about 3-4 days on average. This tea also works wonders for a sore throat! The added honey is so soothing!

DIRECTIONS

  1. Fill a 3-4 quart kettle with water.

  2. Toss in lemon, ginger, cinnamon and if desired, cayenne.

  3. Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to low and simmer for an hour.

  4. Strain out lemons and ginger. A slotted spoon works fine.

  5. Serve hot with honey to taste-I like using about 1-2 tsp.

  6. Store in fridge and reheat as needed.

Bonus Tip:

If you have extra lemons on hand and don’t plan to use anytime soon, slice them as shown in the photo below and lay on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Place in the freezer for a few hours, then put in a gallon freezer bag. They will keep well for at least 3-4 months and are easy to toss into a glass of water or tea or use to make a new batch of lemon ginger tea!
