Psalm 23 is one of my favorites. Over the last year and a half, this beautiful chapter has spoken to me over and over in a hundred ways. Though only 6 short verses, this chapter contains a treasure trove of peace, comfort, and provision.
I want to share with you something I recently found that beautifully correlates the 7 names of God with the lines of Psalm 23. I have to credit Chuck Missler with this finding, as I happened upon it while listening to one of his videos a couple months back.
First, I want to give a quick overview of the names of God I am referring to, since there are many!
- Jehovah-Jireh (The Lord will provide) (Genesis 22:14)
- Jehovah-Rapha (The Lord that heals) (Exodus 15:26)
- Jehovah-Shalom (The Lord our peace) (Judges 6:24)
- Jehovah-Tsidkenu (The Lord our righteousness) (Jeremiah 23:6)
- Jehovah-Shammah (The Lord Ever-present) (Ezekial 48:35)
- Jehovah-Nissi (The Lord our banner) (Exodus 17:15)
- Jehovah-Raah (The Lord our shepherd (Psalm 23)

Each of these amazing names of God has a correlating verse in Psalm 23:
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd (Jehovah-Raah)
I shall not want. (I shall lack nothing: Jehovah Jireh)
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, (I shall not lack provision: Jehovah Jireh)
He leadeth me beside the still waters. (I shall not lack peace: Jehovah-Shalom)
He restoreth my soul. (I shall not lack restoration: Jehovah-Rapha)
He leadeth me in paths of righteousness, for His name's sake. (I shall not ack guidance: Jehovah-Tsidkenu)
Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. (I shall not lack God's presence: Jehovah Shammah)
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. (I shall not lack courage: Jehovah Shammah).
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. though anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. (I shall not lack protection, preservation or honor: Jehovah-Nissi)
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
I love this entire passage, but that last line always makes me pause and really meditate on the words: "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me." The Hebrew word used for "follow me" is radaph, which means to pursue or chase. Meaning that God's goodness and mercy will chase us down! I don't know about you, but I absolutely LOVE that! God literally chases us down with his goodness! I can't help but rejoice in Him because of that! We serve an amazing God!
If you're going through a trying time, take heart, and read through Psalm 23 again. God provides absolutely all you will ever need! Just put your faith in Him. His promises are yes and amen!
